Sunday School

Big Group

Most Sundays, Confirmation class and Sunday School classes (Grades 6-12) gather from 9:30 to 10:00 am in the fellowship hall for a period of fellowship, announcements, and worship. This new larger space allows our entire youth group to gather as one community of faith. The Youth Ministry team is planning a schedule of featured worship groups during this time to include our youth praise bands, choir, puppets, liturgical dance, and more.

Classroom Positions

Grade-level teachers: As a grade level teacher, you will be emailed a lesson and an agenda about a week before you are to teach. All supplies needed to teach the lesson are provided in the room when you arrive. You will need about an hour of prep-time each week to study and reflect on the lesson, and you will spend 45-minutes in the classroom on Sunday mornings. In the middle school grades, you will introduce the instructions to each activity, but most class time is spent in table groups. This position should plan to serve twice a month.

Assistants/Table Leaders: In seventh and eighth grade classes, you will facilitate table group discussions and small-group activities as described by your table leader guide sent to you each week. You will also aid in taking attendance. Allow about 30 minutes each week to preview the lesson and pray. Table leaders are highly encouraged to form guiding relationships with the youth in their table group by listening and offering support. This position should plan to serve twice a month.

Floater: Same as above, but you may serve only once a month and may serve with a different group each time.

1:1 Guide for students with special needs: We are in the beginning stages of forming this ministry. We have a need for shepherds to attend our regular Sunday School classes with the express purpose of being the face of Christ and providing extra support to those students who have been identified as needing extra help to be successful in our programs. We will work with you to match you with appropriate youth.

Behind the Scenes
Supplies Assistant: In this role, you will either 1) help gather the supplies needed for the week’s curriculum, or 2) Come to the church on Thursdays or Fridays at your convenience to prepare the classroom boxes.

Curriculum Assistant: Former teachers, current teachers, and other creative types who love lesson planning will be provided second semester lessons and asked to help customize them according to a provided template. This is fun, creative work! Each lesson takes about 3-4 hours. Sign up to write one or several at your own pace.

Admin Support: This position will help Patty Gothard to maintain an accurate, up-to-date student and parent directory and help with photocopying Sunday School handouts, etc.
